POSITION SUMMARY:

The SEWING MACHINE OPERATOR will operate or tend sewing machines to join, reinforce, or perform related sewing operations in production. He/She is responsible for meeting daily production numbers and ensuring that work meets quality specifications.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The SEWING MACHINE OPERATOR will monitor machine operation to detect problems such as defective stitching, breaks in thread, or machine malfunctions. He/She will position items under needles, using marks on material, templates, or other guides. She/He will place spools of thread, insert bobbins, and thread ends through machine guides and components. Incumbent will select supplies such as fasteners and thread, according to job requirements; will mount attachments and adjust machine guides according to specifications, also cut excess material or thread from finished products. Sewer will attach tape to specified product part, according to blueprints and work instructions. He/She is responsible for sewing products to high precision quality to detailed specifications using various machines.


Sewing Machine Operator expectations:

· Ability to read blueprint /work instructions.

· Ability to read rulers and measuring devices in order to examine finished articles and verify conformance to job standards.

· Ensure products are made to specification and quality of workmanship is of a high standard.

· Responsible for making sure their machines are in good running order, such as oiling, making sure stitch count has not moved and that the tension is good and etc.

· Perform other duties as assigned


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods is a plus. Must be able to read and write. He/She must have the ability to multitask using various types of machines. .

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or GED Equivalent preferred. Manufacturing and production experience; knowledge of sewing machines, sewing and parachute assembly and function preferred.
