Parachute Rigger
Location North Carolina.
Reports to: Production Manager
Function and Objective: Performs duties in packing and final assembly of parachutes at a skill level necessary to assure equipment function. Provides technical guidance to lower-grade personnel. Inspects parachutes and associated equipment. Conducts sampling and quality assurance technical inspection. Disposes of unserviceable parachutes and equipment.
This is an hourly position. Verifies and keeps records on outgoing parachutes and prepares items for shipment.
Essential Functions: Position is focused on inspecting, assembling, folding, and packing parachutes according to specifications. The parachute rigger must be very accurate because the result of mistakes could be damaging to the performance of the product. The rigger must possess alertness with regard to safety procedures and hazardous materials. The essential job functions include the following:
- Packs, repairs, checks, adjusts and installs parachutes and accessories.
- Perform complex parachute assembly tasks.
- May operate a tier-lift truck or use a hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping-and-receiving platform to storage or work area
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Accountability: This position exists within the production department. As a Parachute Rigger, you will be responsible for the safety of the men, women, and equipment entrusted to the parachutes you pack. This requires incredible attention to detail as chutes of varying sizes must be precisely packed and maintained. In addition to packing chutes, you will take responsibility for maintaining the materials of the chute as well. This includes patching, sewing, and storage of the chutes, packs, and web gear. Reporting to the production manager, accountable to support the contract requirements including:
- Determines methods and sequence of operations, services, maintains, tests, and inspects parachutes for conformance to specifications, Company, and customer requirements.
- Makes corrections, adjustments, and repairs on parachutes and their accessories as required.
- Inspects all types of parachutes periodically for airworthiness as defined by FAA and/or Company specifications and manufactures’ manuals. Unpacks parachutes as required, repairs, or replaces damaged, worn, or broken components, and repacks parachutes.
- Disassembles replace parts, cleans, lubricates, reassembles, and packs parachutes as required.
- Assists Engineering and other authorized Company and vendor personnel in the modification, adjustment, and alteration of parachutes, etc., and in the correction of malfunctioning items.
- Notifies supervisor when major discrepancies occur, or substitutions have been made
- Updates ERP system in a timely and accurate manner and maintains other records.

Qualifications:
The preferred candidate will be a Senior or Master Parachute Rigger licensed by the Federal Aviation Administration.
This is a mid-level position. Under minimal supervision, assembles components by examining connections for correct fit, fastening parts, and sub-assemblies, per customer order. Is able to perform semi-routine tasks that are non-standard or varied without assistance. The rigger receives work instruction from the production manager and refers problems to the production manager. The rigger cannot change policy or procedures without permission from the production manager and must exhibit an understanding of parachute production processes, including:
- Ability to read and understand English.
- Read and assemble per drawings instructions without guidance.
- Operate hand tools, electrical tools, hand cutters, measuring equipment, and light equipment.
- Basic mechanical knowledge.
- Experience and ability to operate measuring equipment.
- Willing to perform any task necessary to ensure the on-time delivery of the product to the customer.
- Willing to cross-train and work in all areas of the assembly operation.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
- Good communication skills required
- Detail-oriented and able to maintain high accuracy standards
- Must be a self-starter and able to operate effectively as a team member with minimal supervision
- Willingness to work overtime as need required
- Possess a positive attitude, action-orientated, and results-driven

- High school graduation.
- At least 3-6 years relevant job experience.
In addition, it must be physically able to perform duties as a parachute rigger; must not have been relieved of duties or have had their parachute duty status terminated for alcohol or any substance abuse reason within the last 5 years; must be able to travel worldwide to conduct training.
