BRS Aerospace’s primary business is the design, manufacture, and sale of rocket-extracted whole-airframe parachute recovery systems. Purpose
The purpose of this position is to create products and components. It involves working closely with raw materials, using a variety of hand and power tools, specialized machinery and computerized devices
Reports to: Chief Engineer
Accountabilities
The fabricator is accountable for ensuring that the quality of the components and products he/she creates conform to specifications.
Responsibilities
- examine and interpret blueprints and manufacturing schematics to ensure that they are assembling components and products correctly.
- determine the tools and materials needs.
- read parts lists to ensure they have everything they need on hand to prevent delays.
- examine parts and components to ensure that they are free of defects.
- repair products or remake certain components to eliminate errors.
- report errors to supervisors.
- may make recommendations to improve the products or components.
- work closely with engineers and designers on product development.
- provide input and advice during the development and planning phases.
- create prototypes based on engineer or designer plans.
- Create metal and wood frames.
Knowledge, skills, competencies
- Technical skills – read and interpret blueprints and specification sheets, high level of technical competence and ability to operate industrial machinery.
- Skill areas: welding, carpentry, metalwork, plastics, etc.
- Dexterity – dexterous to operate hand tools.
- Team coordination – successfully collaborate with team members throughout the manufacturing process.
- Safety skills – employ best practices to maintain jobsite safety and ensure that workspaces are clear of potential dangers.
- Quality assurance skills – experience with quality control to examine the components and devices to ensure that specifications have been followed and parts have been correctly fabricated and assembled.
- Sewing, textiles, carbon fiber and fiber glass familiarity is a plus.
