Production Engineer
Location North Carolina.
General Summary of Position:
The Production Engineer is responsible for the development and maintenance of the manufacturing processes and procedures, and related documents, as well as the systems needed to drive continuous improvement in areas of cost, quality, safety, lead time, and cost in all manufacturing facilities for the production of aerospace textile and hardware parts.
The following reflect the essential functions for this position but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned based upon changing business conditions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create formal specification CAD drawings for textile and hardware parts from design drafts.
- Coordinate the Engineering Change Orders and engineering controlled documents such as drawings, specifications and manufacturing aid documents among others.
- Complete the planning/estimating of new manufacturing processes and operations.
- Coordinate the NPI (New Product Introduction) process; evaluating new projects for layout optimization, opportunities for automation, tooling, material delivery and presentation, material flow and operator work envelopes.
- Develop standard work documents for existing and new processes.
- Maintain the manufacturing processes within the ERP (NetSuite).
- Evaluate tools and equipment options that will improve productivity and eliminate hazards.
- Implement lean manufacturing principles such as 5S, visual controls, pull inventory systems, workplace organization, material flow routes, material delivery methods (kitting, kanban, etc.).
- Monitor and correct safety / ergonomic issues.
- Drive continuous improvement focused on eliminating material, time, energy and labor waste.
- Aid in workstation load balancing for all manufacturing lines.
- Communicate with and assist cross-functional teams to resolve issues.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial/Mechanical/Textile/Manufacturing Engineering or related field; minimum of three years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in a lean manufacturing environment or lean manufacturing training.
- Experience with working a low-volume/high variation manufacturing operation.
- Knowledge of material flow and developing material routes.
- Deep understanding and experience using the metric and imperial systems.
- Intermediate computer skills are required.
- Working knowledge of computer-aided design systems (SolidWorks and AutoCAD preferred).
- Experience in CNC cutting and semiautomatic machinery setup and configuration.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Acrobat, and ERP software.
- Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Possess project management skills necessary to start, implement, and bring projects to closure on time and within budget.
- Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to stay on task.
- Innovative team player.
- Sound judgment with the ability to make timely, and sometimes difficult, decisions.
- Versatile, flexible, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities.
- Able to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Understands safety requirements and cautions.
- Organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Strong communication skills, verbal and written, Spanish is a plus.
- 3 years of manufacturing engineering experience. Experience in heavy textiles is a plus (parachutes, balloons, inflatables, backpacks, harnesses, tents, sails, etc…).
- US Citizenship.
