BRS Aerospace Commends Cirrus on 7,000th SR And Incorporation of Ballistic Recovery System

South St. Paul, Minn., Aug. 20, 2018 – BRS Aerospace, which provides a revolutionary whole aircraft parachute system as standard equipment to Cirrus Aircraft, has extended its congratulations to the innovative aircraft company on the 7,000th production SR single-engine aircraft. Cirrus commitment to aircraft safety improvements account in large measure for the aircraft becoming the most popular single-engine aircraft in the world.

“Cirrus Aircraft pioneered a number of revolutionary concepts with this revolutionary airplane,” said BRS Aerospace President/Director Enrique Dillon. “Today those innovations – including, the use of composites and safety enhancements of a glass cockpit, FIKI, Enhanced Vision Systems, and especially the CAPS parachute recovery system – are safety necessities for this category of aircraft.”

During 2018, Cirrus Aircraft is celebrating two major milestones: the 7,000th SR delivery and reaching 10 million flight hours through the worldwide SR Series fleet. The SR Series has been the best-selling general aviation piston aircraft in its class for 16 consecutive years.

A recent independent statistical analysis concluded that when deployed the ballistic recovery system installed on the dominant Cirrus aircraft series significantly reduced the odds of experiencing a fatal aircraft accident. BRS has documented a total of 385 lives saved when the ballistic recovery system was deployed.

BRS Aerospace is the world leader in whole aircraft parachute systems. The system is designed to be a last resort for pilots and passengers when all other attempts to recover the airplane in case of emergency or pilot incapacitation have failed.

BRS Aerospace’s current whole aircraft parachute system for fixed-wing aircraft design calls for a parachute ballistic launcher to be installed in the aircraft with a pilot-initiated activator located in the cockpit. Upon activation, a ballistic rocket propels a parachute into the airstream to slow the airplane and float it down into a survivable vertical landing.

BRS was awarded the first FAA certified whole aircraft parachute system, which was the basis for the first FAA-certified whole aircraft system as standard equipment on the Cirrus. Since becoming a supplier for Cirrus, BRS has been awarded a Cirrus Outstanding Supplier Award. BRS founder Boris Popov has been awarded the 2017 Joseph T. Nall Award, which is presented to someone who has made a special contribution to air and transportation safety over the course of their career.

BRS Aerospace was founded in South St. Paul, Minn. It has manufacturing facilities at the South St. Paul Municipal Airport and in Pine Bluff, N.C. The system has been successfully deployed multiple times. For more information go to www.brsaerospace.com.
